Verse (98:5), Word 10 - Quranic Grammar


The tenth word of verse (98:5) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A conjunction, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The form IV imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is third person masculine plural and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is qāf wāw mīm (ق و م). The analysis above refers to the fifth verse of chapter 98 (sūrat l-bayinah):

Sahih International: And they were not commanded except to worship Allah , [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion.
