Verse (7:96), Word 7 - Quranic Grammar

The seventh word of verse (7:96) is divided into 3 morphological segments. An emphatic prefix, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is first person plural. The verb's triliteral root is fā tā ḥā (ف ت ح). The suffix (نا) is an attached subject pronoun.

Sahih International: And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah , We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning."
