Verse (5:49), Word 12 - Quranic Grammar

The twelfth word of verse (5:49) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A verb, subject pronoun and object pronoun. The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is third person masculine plural and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is fā tā nūn (ف ت ن). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun. The attached object pronoun is second person masculine singular.

Verse (5:49)

The analysis above refers to the 49th verse of chapter 5 (sūrat l-māidah):

Sahih International: And judge, [O Muúammad], between them by what Allah has revealed and do not follow their inclinations and beware of them, lest they tempt you away from some of what Allah has revealed to you. And if they turn away – then know that Allah only intends to afflict them with some of their [own] sins. And indeed, many among the people are defiantly disobedient.
