Verse (16:35), Word 8 - Quranic Grammar

The eighth word of verse (16:35) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A verb and subject pronoun. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is first person plural. The verb's triliteral root is ʿayn bā dāl (ع ب د). The suffix (نا) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (16:35)

The analysis above refers to the 35th verse of chapter 16 (sūrat l-naḥl):

Sahih International: And those who associate others with Allah say, "If Allah had willed, we would not have worshipped anything other than Him, neither we nor our fathers, nor would we have forbidden anything through other than Him." Thus did those do before them. So is there upon the messengers except [the duty of] clear notification?
