Verse (12:17), Word 6 - Quranic Grammar

The sixth word of verse (12:17) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A conjunction, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is first person plural. The verb's triliteral root is tā rā kāf (ت ر ك). The suffix (نا) is an attached subject pronoun.

Sahih International: They said, "O our father, indeed we went racing each other and left Joseph with our possessions, and a wolf ate him. But you would not believe us, even if we were truthful."
