Verse (9:5), Word 21 - Quranic Grammar

The 21st word of verse (9:5) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A resumption particle, verb and subject pronoun. The connective particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The form II imperative verb (فعل أمر) is second person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is khā lām wāw (خ ل و). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Sahih International: And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
