Verse (9:54), Word 11 - Quranic Grammar

The eleventh word of verse (9:54) is divided into 4 morphological segments. A conjunction, preposition, noun and possessive pronoun. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The prefixed preposition bi is usually translated as "with" or "by". The noun is masculine and is in the genitive case (مجرور). The noun's triliteral root is rā sīn lām (ر س ل). The attached possessive pronoun is third person masculine singular. Together the segments form a preposition phrase known as jār wa majrūr (جار ومجرور).

Sahih International: And what prevents their expenditures from being accepted from them but that they have disbelieved in Allah and in His Messenger and that they come not to prayer except while they are lazy and that they do not spend except while they are unwilling.
