Verse (9:46), Word 4 - Quranic Grammar

The fourth word of verse (9:46) is divided into 3 morphological segments. An emphatic prefix, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The form IV perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is ʿayn dāl dāl (ع د د). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Sahih International: And if they had intended to go forth, they would have prepared for it [some] preparation. But Allah disliked their being sent, so He kept them back, and they were told, "Remain [behind] with those who remain."
