Verse (9:12), Word 7 - Quranic Grammar

The seventh word of verse (9:12) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A conjunction, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is ṭā ʿayn nūn (ط ع ن). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Sahih International: And if they break their oaths after their treaty and defame your religion, then fight the leaders of disbelief, for indeed, there are no oaths [sacred] to them; [fight them that] they might cease.
