Verse (9:122), Word 13 - Quranic Grammar

The thirteenth word of verse (9:122) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A particle of purpose, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is used to indicate the purpose of an action and makes the following verb subjunctive. The form V imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is third person masculine plural and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is fā qāf hā (ف ق ه). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Sahih International: And it is not for the believers to go forth [to battle] all at once. For there should separate from every division of them a group [remaining] to obtain understanding in the religion and warn their people when they return to them that they might be cautious.
