Verse (8:53), Word 5 - Quranic Grammar

The fifth word of verse (8:53) is an imperfect verb (فعل مضارع). The verb is third person masculine singular and is in the jussive mood (مجزوم). The verb's triliteral root is kāf wāw nūn (ك و ن). The verb (يك) belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها).

Sahih International: That is because Allah would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon a people until they change what is within themselves. And indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing.
