Verse (8:41), Word 9 - Quranic Grammar

The ninth word of verse (8:41) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A conjunction, preposition and noun. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The prefixed preposition lām is usually translated as "for". The noun is masculine and is in the genitive case (مجرور). The noun's triliteral root is rā sīn lām (ر س ل). Together the segments form a preposition phrase known as jār wa majrūr (جار ومجرور).

Verse (8:41)

The analysis above refers to the 41st verse of chapter 8 (sūrat l-anfāl):

Sahih International: And know that anything you obtain of war booty - then indeed, for Allah is one fifth of it and for the Messenger and for [his] near relatives and the orphans, the needy, and the [stranded] traveler, if you have believed in Allah and in that which We sent down to Our Servant on the day of criterion - the day when the two armies met. And Allah , over all things, is competent.
