Verse (8:31), Word 10 - Quranic Grammar

The tenth word of verse (8:31) is divided into 3 morphological segments. An emphatic prefix, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is first person plural. The verb's triliteral root is qāf wāw lām (ق و ل). The suffix (نا) is an attached subject pronoun.

Sahih International: And when Our verses are recited to them, they say, "We have heard. If we willed, we could say [something] like this. This is not but legends of the former peoples."
