Verse (81:22), Word 1 - Quranic Grammar


The first word of verse (81:22) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A resumption particle and negative particle. The connective particle wa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The negative particle acts like the verb laysa (ليس). This verb belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها).

NEG – negative particle
الواو استئنافية
نافية بمنزلة «ليس»
