Verse (7:31), Word 2 - Quranic Grammar

__

The second word of verse (7:31) is a masculine proper noun and is in the genitive case (مجرور). The case marker is a fatḥah instead of a kasrah because the proper noun is a diptote (ممنوع من الصرف).

Chapter (7) sūrat l-aʿrāf (The Heights)

(7:31:2)
ādama
(of) Adam!
PN – genitive masculine proper noun → Adam اسم علم مجرور بالفتحة بدلاً من الكسرة لأنه ممنوع من الصرف

Verse (7:31)

The analysis above refers to the 31st verse of chapter 7 (sūrat l-aʿrāf):

Sahih International: O children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjid, and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.
