Verse (7:20), Word 23 - Quranic Grammar

The 23rd word of verse (7:20) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A verb and subject pronoun. The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is second person dual and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is kāf wāw nūn (ك و ن). The verb (كان) belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها). The suffix (الألف) is an attached subject pronoun.

Sahih International: But Satan whispered to them to make apparent to them that which was concealed from them of their private parts. He said, "Your Lord did not forbid you this tree except that you become angels or become of the immortal."
