Verse (7:171), Word 7 - Quranic Grammar

The seventh word of verse (7:171) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A resumption particle, verb and subject pronoun. The connective particle wa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is ẓā nūn nūn (ظ ن ن). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Sahih International: And [mention] when We raised the mountain above them as if it was a dark cloud and they were certain that it would fall upon them, [and Allah said], "Take what We have given you with determination and remember what is in it that you might fear Allah."
