Verse (6:8), Word 1 - Quranic Grammar

The first word of verse (6:8) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A conjunction, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is qāf wāw lām (ق و ل). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

And they said,

Verse (6:8)

The analysis above refers to the eighth verse of chapter 6 (sūrat l-anʿām):

Sahih International: And they say, "Why was there not sent down to him an angel?" But if We had sent down an angel, the matter would have been decided; then they would not be reprieved.
