Verse (6:157), Word 8 - Quranic Grammar

The eighth word of verse (6:157) is divided into 3 morphological segments. An emphatic prefix, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is first person plural. The verb's triliteral root is kāf wāw nūn (ك و ن). The verb (كان) belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها). The suffix (نا) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (6:157)

The analysis above refers to the 157th verse of chapter 6 (sūrat l-anʿām):

Sahih International: Or lest you say, "If only the Scripture had been revealed to us, we would have been better guided than they." So there has [now] come to you a clear evidence from your Lord and a guidance and mercy. Then who is more unjust than one who denies the verses of Allah and turns away from them? We will recompense those who turn away from Our verses with the worst of punishment for their having turned away.
