Verse (6:148), Word 28 - Quranic Grammar

The 28th word of verse (6:148) is divided into 4 morphological segments. A particle of cause, verb, subject pronoun and object pronoun. The prefixed particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so". The particle is used to indicate cause and makes the following verb subjunctive. The form IV imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is second person masculine plural and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is khā rā jīm (خ ر ج). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun. The attached object pronoun is third person masculine singular.

Sahih International: Those who associated with Allah will say, "If Allah had willed, we would not have associated [anything] and neither would our fathers, nor would we have prohibited anything." Likewise did those before deny until they tasted Our punishment. Say, "Do you have any knowledge that you can produce for us? You follow not except assumption, and you are not but falsifying."
