Verse (6:137), Word 10 - Quranic Grammar

The tenth word of verse (6:137) is divided into 4 morphological segments. A conjunction, particle of purpose, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The prefixed particle lām is used to indicate the purpose of an action and makes the following verb subjunctive. The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is third person masculine plural and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is lām bā sīn (ل ب س). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Sahih International: And likewise, to many of the polytheists their partners have made [to seem] pleasing the killing of their children in order to bring about their destruction and to cover them with confusion in their religion. And if Allah had willed, they would not have done so. So leave them and that which they invent.
