Verse (5:8), Word 9 - Quranic Grammar

The ninth word of verse (5:8) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A conjunction and prohibition particle. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The prohibition particle (حرف نهي) is used to form a negative imperative and places the following verb into the jussive mood (مجزوم).

Sahih International: O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah , witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.
