Verse (5:66), Word 11 - Quranic Grammar

The eleventh word of verse (5:66) is divided into 3 morphological segments. An emphatic prefix, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is hamza kāf lām (أ ك ل). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (5:66)

Sahih International: And if only they upheld [the law of] the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been revealed to them from their Lord, they would have consumed [provision] from above them and from beneath their feet. Among them are a moderate community, but many of them – evil is that which they do.
