Verse (5:53), Word 14 - Quranic Grammar

The fourteenth word of verse (5:53) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A conjunction, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed conjunction fa is usually translated as "and". The form IV perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is ṣād bā ḥā (ص ب ح). The verb (اصبح) belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Sahih International: And those who believe will say, "Are these the ones who swore by Allah their strongest oaths that indeed they were with you?" Their deeds have become worthless, and they have become losers.
