Verse (5:47), Word 1 - Quranic Grammar

The first word of verse (5:47) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A conjunction, imperative particle and verb. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "let" and is used to form an imperative construction. The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is third person masculine singular and is in the jussive mood (مجزوم). The verb's triliteral root is ḥā kāf mīm (ح ك م).

Sahih International: And let the People of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed therein. And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed – then it is those who are the defiantly disobedient.
