Verse (5:45), Word 1 - Quranic Grammar

The first word of verse (5:45) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A conjunction, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is first person plural. The verb's triliteral root is kāf tā bā (ك ت ب). The suffix (نا) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (5:45)

The analysis above refers to the 45th verse of chapter 5 (sūrat l-māidah):

Sahih International: And We ordained for them therein a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose, an ear for an ear, a tooth for a tooth, and for wounds is legal retribution. But whoever gives [up his right as] charity, it is an expiation for him. And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed – then it is those who are the wrongdoers.
