Verse (5:31), Word 16 - Quranic Grammar

The sixteenth word of verse (5:31) is an imperfect verb (فعل مضارع). The verb is first person singular and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is kāf wāw nūn (ك و ن). The verb (اكون) belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها).

Sahih International: Then Allah sent a crow searching in the ground to show him how to hide the disgrace of his brother. He said, "O woe to me! Have I failed to be like this crow and hide the body of my brother?" And he became of the regretful.
