Verse (58:2), Word 15 - Quranic Grammar

The fifteenth word of verse (58:2) is divided into 3 morphological segments. An emphatic prefix, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is third person masculine plural and is in the indicative mood (مرفوع). The verb's triliteral root is qāf wāw lām (ق و ل). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (58:2)

The analysis above refers to the second verse of chapter 58 (sūrat l-mujādilah):

Sahih International: Those who pronounce thihar among you [to separate] from their wives - they are not [consequently] their mothers. Their mothers are none but those who gave birth to them. And indeed, they are saying an objectionable statement and a falsehood. But indeed, Allah is Pardoning and Forgiving.
