Verse (57:12), Word 9 - Quranic Grammar

The ninth word of verse (57:12) is divided into 4 morphological segments. A conjunction, preposition, noun and possessive pronoun. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The prefixed preposition bi is usually translated as "with" or "by". The noun is masculine plural and is in the genitive case (مجرور). The noun's triliteral root is yā mīm nūn (ي م ن). The attached possessive pronoun is third person masculine plural. Together the segments form a preposition phrase known as jār wa majrūr (جار ومجرور).

Verse (57:12)

The analysis above refers to the twelfth verse of chapter 57 (sūrat l-ḥadīd):

Sahih International: On the Day you see the believing men and believing women, their light proceeding before them and on their right, [it will be said], "Your good tidings today are [of] gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein you will abide eternally." That is what is the great attainment.
