Verse (4:3), Word 1 - Quranic Grammar

The first word of verse (4:3) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A resumption particle and conditional particle. The connective particle wa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events.

Verse (4:3)

The analysis above refers to the third verse of chapter 4 (sūrat l-nisāa):

Sahih International: And if you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphan girls, then marry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four. But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one or those your right hand possesses. That is more suitable that you may not incline [to injustice].
