Verse (4:39), Word 12 - Quranic Grammar

The twelfth word of verse (4:39) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A resumption particle and verb. The connective particle wa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine singular. The verb's triliteral root is kāf wāw nūn (ك و ن). The verb (كان) belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها).
