Verse (4:119), Word 8 - Quranic Grammar

The eighth word of verse (4:119) is divided into 4 morphological segments. A supplemental particle, emphatic prefix, verb and emphatic suffix. The supplemental particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so". The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The form II imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is third person masculine plural and is in the indicative mood (مرفوع). The verb's triliteral root is ghayn yā rā (غ ي ر). The suffixed emphatic particle is known as the nūn of emphasis (نون التوكيد).

Verse (4:119)

The analysis above refers to the 119th verse of chapter 4 (sūrat l-nisāa):

Sahih International: And I will mislead them, and I will arouse in them [sinful] desires, and I will command them so they will slit the ears of cattle, and I will command them so they will change the creation of Allah." And whoever takes Satan as an ally instead of Allah has certainly sustained a clear loss.
