Verse (40:22), Word 7 - Quranic Grammar

The seventh word of verse (40:22) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A resumption particle, verb and subject pronoun. The connective particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is kāf fā rā (ك ف ر). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Sahih International: That was because their messengers were coming to them with clear proofs, but they disbelieved, so Allah seized them. Indeed, He is Powerful and severe in punishment.
