Verse (3:78), Word 7 - Quranic Grammar

The seventh word of verse (3:78) is divided into 4 morphological segments. A particle of purpose, verb, subject pronoun and object pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is used to indicate the purpose of an action and makes the following verb subjunctive. The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is second person masculine plural and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is ḥā sīn bā (ح س ب). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun. The attached object pronoun is third person masculine singular.

Sahih International: And indeed, there is among them a party who alter the Scripture with their tongues so you may think it is from the Scripture, but it is not from the Scripture. And they say, "This is from Allah ," but it is not from Allah. And they speak untruth about Allah while they know.
