Verse (3:167), Word 17 - Quranic Grammar

The seventeenth word of verse (3:167) is divided into 4 morphological segments. An emphatic prefix, verb, subject pronoun and object pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The form VIII perfect verb (فعل ماض) is first person plural. The verb's triliteral root is tā bā ʿayn (ت ب ع). The suffix (نا) is an attached subject pronoun. The attached object pronoun is second person masculine plural.

Sahih International: And that He might make evident those who are hypocrites. For it was said to them, "Come, fight in the way of Allah or [at least] defend."
