Verse (3:110), Word 17 - Quranic Grammar

The seventeenth word of verse (3:110) is divided into 2 morphological segments. An emphatic prefix and verb. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine singular. The verb's triliteral root is kāf wāw nūn (ك و ن). The verb (كان) belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها).

Sahih International: You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah. If only the People of the Scripture had believed, it would have been better for them. Among them are believers, but most of them are defiantly disobedient.
