Verse (36:18), Word 8 - Quranic Grammar

The eighth word of verse (36:18) is divided into 4 morphological segments. An emphatic prefix, verb, emphatic suffix and object pronoun. The prefixed particle lām is usually translated as "surely" or "indeed" and is used to add emphasis. The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is first person plural and is in the indicative mood (مرفوع). The verb's triliteral root is rā jīm mīm (ر ج م). The suffixed emphatic particle is known as the nūn of emphasis (نون التوكيد). The attached object pronoun is second person masculine plural.

Sahih International: They said, "Indeed, we consider you a bad omen. If you do not desist, we will surely stone you, and there will surely touch you, from us, a painful punishment."
