Verse (34:19), Word 8 - Quranic Grammar

The eighth word of verse (34:19) is divided into 4 morphological segments. A resumption particle, verb, subject pronoun and object pronoun. The connective particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is first person plural. The verb's triliteral root is jīm ʿayn lām (ج ع ل). The suffix (نا) is an attached subject pronoun. The attached object pronoun is third person masculine plural.

Verse (34:19)

The analysis above refers to the nineteenth verse of chapter 34 (sūrat saba):

Sahih International: But [insolently] they said, "Our Lord, lengthen the distance between our journeys," and wronged themselves, so We made them narrations and dispersed them in total dispersion. Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.
