Verse (33:5), Word 25 - Quranic Grammar

The 25th word of verse (33:5) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A conjunction and verb. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is third person masculine singular. The verb's triliteral root is kāf wāw nūn (ك و ن). The verb (كان) belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها).

The analysis above refers to the fifth verse of chapter 33 (sūrat l-aḥzāb):

Sahih International: Call them by [the names of] their fathers; it is more just in the sight of Allah. But if you do not know their fathers - then they are [still] your brothers in religion and those entrusted to you. And there is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred but [only for] what your hearts intended. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.
