Verse (33:32), Word 12 - Quranic Grammar

The twelfth word of verse (33:32) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A particle of cause and verb. The prefixed particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so". The particle is used to indicate cause and makes the following verb subjunctive. The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is third person masculine singular and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is ṭā mīm ʿayn (ط م ع).

Sahih International: O wives of the Prophet, you are not like anyone among women. If you fear Allah , then do not be soft in speech [to men], lest he in whose heart is disease should covet, but speak with appropriate speech.
