Verse (31:12), Word 3 - Quranic Grammar

__

The third word of verse (31:12) is a proper noun in the genitive case (مجرور). The case marker is a fatḥah instead of a kasrah because the proper noun is a diptote (ممنوع من الصرف).

Chapter (31) sūrat luq'mān

(31:12:3)
luq'māna
Luqman
PN – genitive proper noun → Luqman اسم علم مجرور بالفتحة بدلاً من الكسرة لأنه ممنوع من الصرف

Verse (31:12)

The analysis above refers to the twelfth verse of chapter 31 (sūrat luq'mān):

Sahih International: And We had certainly given Luqman wisdom [and said], "Be grateful to Allah." And whoever is grateful is grateful for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever denies [His favor] - then indeed, Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy.
