Verse (2:59), Word 9 - Quranic Grammar

The ninth word of verse (2:59) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A particle of cause, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so". The particle is used to indicate cause and makes the following verb subjunctive. The form IV perfect verb (فعل ماض) is first person plural. The verb's triliteral root is nūn zāy lām (ن ز ل). The suffix (نا) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (2:59)

The analysis above refers to the 59th verse of chapter 2 (sūrat l-baqarah):

Sahih International: But those who wronged changed [those words] to a statement other than that which had been said to them, so We sent down upon those who wronged a punishment from the sky because they were defiantly disobeying.
