Verse (2:38), Word 9 - Quranic Grammar


The ninth word of verse (2:38) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A result particle and conditional noun. The result particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate the result of a condition.

Sahih International: We said, "Go down from it, all of you. And when guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance - there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.

"fa" here is not "result particle". It is another resumption particle introducing a conditional noun.

Salam, Abdul Rahman,

The Source Book also calls it [اِستئنافية] but also suggests that it might be Linkage for Apodosis. However, here it seems correctly tagged since it is linkage for Apodosis clause for "إمَّا" مؤلفة من "إن" حرف شرط جازم،
