Verse (2:38), Word 12 - Quranic Grammar

The twelfth word of verse (2:38) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A result particle and negative particle. The result particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate the result of a condition. The negative particle acts like the verb laysa (ليس). This verb belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها).

Sahih International: We said, "Go down from it, all of you. And when guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance - there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.
