Verse (2:28), Word 4 - Quranic Grammar

The fourth word of verse (2:28) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A circumstantial particle, verb and subject pronoun. The connective particle wa is usually translated as "while" and is used to indicate the circumstance of events. The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is second person masculine plural. The verb's triliteral root is kāf wāw nūn (ك و ن). The verb (كان) belongs to a special group of words known as kāna and her sisters (كان واخواتها). The suffix (التاء) is an attached subject pronoun.

Sahih International: How can you disbelieve in Allah when you were lifeless and He brought you to life; then He will cause you to die, then He will bring you [back] to life, and then to Him you will be returned.
