Verse (2:222), Word 11 - Quranic Grammar

The eleventh word of verse (2:222) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A resumption particle and prohibition particle. The connective particle wa is usually translated as "then" or "so" and is used to indicate a sequence of events. The prohibition particle (حرف نهي) is used to form a negative imperative and places the following verb into the jussive mood (مجزوم).

The analysis above refers to the 222nd verse of chapter 2 (sūrat l-baqarah):

Sahih International: And they ask you about menstruation. Say, "It is harm, so keep away from wives during menstruation. And do not approach them until they are pure. And when they have purified themselves, then come to them from where Allah has ordained for you. Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves."
