Verse (2:19), Word 19 - Quranic Grammar

The nineteenth word of verse (2:19) is divided into 2 morphological segments. A preposition and active participle. The prefixed preposition bi is usually translated as "with" or "by". The active participle is masculine plural and is in the genitive case (مجرور). The active participle's triliteral root is kāf fā rā (ك ف ر). Together the segments form a preposition phrase known as jār wa majrūr (جار ومجرور).

Sahih International: Or [it is] like a rainstorm from the sky within which is darkness, thunder and lightning. They put their fingers in their ears against the thunderclaps in dread of death. But Allah is encompassing of the disbelievers.
