Verse (28:47), Word 8 - Quranic Grammar

The eighth word of verse (28:47) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A conjunction, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed conjunction fa is usually translated as "and". The imperfect verb (فعل مضارع) is third person masculine plural and is in the subjunctive mood (منصوب). The verb's triliteral root is qāf wāw lām (ق و ل). The suffix (الواو) is an attached subject pronoun.

Sahih International: And if not that a disaster should strike them for what their hands put forth [of sins] and they would say, "Our Lord, why did You not send us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses and been among the believers?"...
