Verse (20:86), Word 14 - Quranic Grammar

The fourteenth word of verse (20:86) is divided into 3 morphological segments. An interrogative alif, supplemental particle and verb. The prefixed alif is an interrogative particle used to form a question and is usually translated as "is", "are", or "do". The supplemental particle fa is usually translated as "then" or "so". Sahih International: So Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved. He said, "O my people, did your Lord not make you a good promise? Then, was the time [of its fulfillment] too long for you, or did you wish that wrath from your Lord descend upon you, so you broke your promise [of obedience] to me?"
