Verse (18:14), Word 1 - Quranic Grammar

The first word of verse (18:14) is divided into 3 morphological segments. A conjunction, verb and subject pronoun. The prefixed conjunction wa is usually translated as "and". The perfect verb (فعل ماض) is first person plural. The verb's triliteral root is rā bā ṭā (ر ب ط). The suffix (نا) is an attached subject pronoun.

Verse (18:14)

The analysis above refers to the fourteenth verse of chapter 18 (sūrat l-kahf):

Sahih International: And We made firm their hearts when they stood up and said, "Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. Never will we invoke besides Him any deity. We would have certainly spoken, then, an excessive transgression.
